New Kitten

The new kitten has arrived. The breeder called him Euro, which I like, but I think we'll probably name him Deja Tu after our other cat (Deja Blu). Eura/Deja is a loveable and very active little guy who goes non-stop.

We'll take photos next week and I also hope to have my new Etsy site up and running.

I'm working on a turquoise necklace and an Infinite Horizons cuff. We're having an open house tomorrow to show off some of my pieces.

Here's a photo of Euro and some of the other kittens. Euro is the kitten in the back facing the camera.

New Kitty

A new kitty will be joining the family very soon. His name is Euro and he's 12 weeks old. Euro is a Tonkinese kitten and will join our resident cat, Deja Blu, in a couple of weeks.

I hope to have a photo of Euro to post very soon.

Some Really Great Books

I’m often asked for the titles of jewelry making books that I have found particularly valuable. For those of you who are interested in making jewelry or learning more about how jewelry is constructed, here are the names of a few that I often refer to.

I have some other interesting titles (available from posted on my site.

The Complete Metalsmith – Tim McCreight. This is a terrific general reference book.

Fabulous Woven Jewelry – Mary Hettmansperger. There is a lot of varied material in this book and I have gotten a lot of ideas to my own designs. (Mary Hettmansperg has another book coming out soon – I'm taking a couple of seminars with her in June at Convergence 2008 in Tampa, FL)

Fiber and Bead Jewelry – Helen Banes. This book explains the techniques involved in tapestry needleweaving along with lots of lucious photos and also gives you patterns to follow.

Contemporary American Jewelry Design – Ettagale Blauer

Textile Techniques In Metal – Arline Fisch. I love this book. There are a number of metal techniques covered with lots of photos.

Jewelry Making Step by Step – E. E. Joachim. This is a book I first used years ago for basic silversmithing. It still is filled with practical information.

Fiber-Wire Beads and Jewelry – Lisa Vann. This book contains innteresting techniques and examples.

Please take a moment to visit this site and my other Squidoo sites click here for jewelry and click here for woven fiber pieces.

Rainy Sunday

Today has been almost totally rainy - lovely sunshine early in the morning followed by drizzle into heavy downpours from mid-day on. Let's hope that tomorrow is a better day.

Watch for my April Art You Can Wear Newsletter - it will out this week.

Small Disaster

While setting up a rental canopy for the show yesterday evening, we discovered that almost all the frame parts for the top were missing.

I've rented this canopy before and everything was perfect, so I didn't check it out. The business is closed on weekends and there is no emergency contact number that I know of. I'm not aware of any last minute rental places, either. As a result, I had to drop out of the show.

In the future, any rental items will be checked out thoroughly.

Getting Ready for the Spring Arts Festival

I'm working hard to get everything ready for the Spring Arts Festival this weekend in downtown Gainesville. I've had some computer problems, but I think I have a backup system ready to go, just in case.
