Bronze Age Necklace

A friend sent me this interesting note recently:

A 4,000-year-old amber necklace has been discovered at a dig organised by a team of archeologists in Manchester. The rare find was unearthed from a stone-lined grave – known as a Cist - excavated by the team from The University of Manchester Field Archaeology Centre and Mellor Archaeological Trust.

It is the first time a necklace of this kind from the early Bronze Age has been found in north west England. Peter Noble from The University of Manchester said: “An amber necklace of this sort was one of the most important ways that people of the early Bronze Age could display their power and influence.

“The fact that it has been found in the north west of England is pretty amazing and extremely rare.” Dozens of different sized pierced amber beads are linked together on a length of fibre to form the beautiful artifact. It was discovered by Vicky Nash from of the Mellor Archaeological Trust.

Peter Noble, who directed the dig added: “The necklace was made of amber – which is not found in this region. “In fact, the nearest source is in the Baltic so we’re bound to ask, how did it get here and who brought it?”

New Etsy Section

I've decided that I like the idea of having a "Clearance" section in my Etsy shop, so after the Holidays, look for some items to go on clearance as I introduce new designs for 2009.

Huge Sale

I have a huge sale going at my Etsy store. Buy one item at regular price and select a second item of lesser value for half price.

The sale runs through December 24 and as always shipping is free and you can request free holiday gift wrap if you like.

End of Year

Since we're approaching the end of the year, I'm thinking about how to organize my records (and my time) better. I really dislike filing, so my filing cabinet has a big pile of unfiled stuff. I need to create several additional file folders to whittle the pile down.

I have a few ideas that I'd like to share with you, in case you have the same problems I do. To help me organize, I'm going to create a planner - basically a folder with monthly calendars (which I already use) and several pages for notes about important things happening during the month. I'm going to use a 3-ring binder with clear page holders and also some pockets, so I can add pages with information that's important to remember while keeping everything together in one place (no more scraps of paper that get lost).

Another important part of my planner will be my To Do List which could be a weekly or monthly list of items that I'll cross off as they are completed. The idea of the list is to be able to jot things down as I think of them and then not forget them.

I'm also adopting a tip from a friend and making a folder for my shows. I'm using another 3-ring binder with a batch of pockets. I will include all the information about each show, a copy of my application, and any correspondence and notes about the show. This should help me keep appointments and shows sorted out.
