New Items on the Website

I'm updating the website and I've had the most "interesting" experience today.  Has anybody ever not been able to locate photos of items on the computer?   Photos you're sure you have?   I've spent a lot of time hunting, but although I distinctly recall photographing two pearl necklaces and their matching earrings, I can't locate a shot of either one, so I'll have to retake the photos.

In the meantime, I've listed several new items, including a woven silver necklace, shown with a jade pendant.

New Items

The cranes are still around, but there have only been four of them now for several days, so I'm getting back to work.

We got some photos taken yesterday and there will be more coming.   I put some new bracelets on the website this evening- take a look.

Photos Coming

I have a number of new items ready to be photographed:  necklaces and earrings.   I'm also working on pendants to go with some of the necklaces.  As soon as I can take the pictures, I'll put some up on the blog.

Crane photos

The cranes are back again and we managed to take some photos.   We couldn't get them all in a single shot and unfortunately it had clouded up when we took the photos.    I really enjoy watching them.

The Cranes Return

The cranes returned this morning and hung around most of the day.   This afternoon the original 4 cranes were joined by 4 more.   They were wonderful to watch and we set up our camera and tripod to take photos in the afternoon sun.  We got a few, but the birds were in the shadows.

A dog appeared late this afternoon and chased all the cranes away.   I do hope they return again tomorrow.  We'll try for more photos then.

Sandhill Cranes

A small group of sandhill cranes has appeared in our backyard this week.   They are so elegant and interesting to watch - I've never seen them here before, but I hope they stick around.

If you Google "sandhill crane photos" you'll come up with a treasure trove of pictures of these wonderful birds!

I'm working on jewelry today - new earring styles and some pendants.   Here's an interesting ammonite pendant.

Deep Freeze Continues

Tomorrow I'll find out how some of our local area farmers have been dealing with the cold.   In the meantime record breaking low temperatures are reaching deep into Florida.   I fear that the fresh salad greens I love so much are already history until it warms up again and the new crop can be grown.   Even generally winter hardy crops are going to have a hard time surviving our current temperatures.

Cartier in America Exhibit

"Cartier and America" Exhibit at the Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco, CA

According to the press release for this fabulous exhibit, Cartier and America traces the history of the House of Cartier from the Belle Epoque through to the 1960s and 1970s, when Cartier supplied celebrities of the day with their jewels and luxury accessories. The exhibit includes a spectacular array of more than 200 objects: jewelry of the Gilded Age and Art Deco periods and numerous commissions for American “royalty,” Hollywood stars, and heiresses. Americans who famously collected Cartier include Marion Davies, Mrs. Cole Porter, Mary Pickford, Barbara Hutton, Elizabeth Taylor, and Marjorie Merriweather Post.

The exhibition marks Cartier’s 100 years in the US and focuses on pieces owned by Americans, including a pair of rock crystal and diamond bracelets worn by Gloria Swanson in the movie Sunset Boulevard, Daisy Fellowes’s famous “Tutti Frutti” necklace, and the exotic flamingo brooch made for the Duchess of Windsor.

Private lenders have contributed pieces. The personal jewelry of Princess Grace of Monaco from the time of her wedding to Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, in 1956 will be featured: her engagement ring—a 10.47-carat emerald-cut diamond set with two baguette diamonds mounted in platinum––a grand diamond necklace, and more informal gold brooches in the form of birds. The Hillwood Museum in Washington, D.C., is lending jewelry made for cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. Post’s brooch, one of the most spectacular pieces of jewelry made in the 1920s, incorporates Indian carved emeralds, one of which dates from the Mughal era.

This exhibit will be in San Francisco from now through April 18th.

Cold Weather for Florida

Brrr!   This coming week is forecast as really cold - especially for Florida.  North Florida expects to see nighttime lows in the 20s.

Hopefully those low temperatures don't last too long.   Otherwise a lot of the fresh salad greens and other lettuces, etc., will not survive.   Let's hope the chill doesn't reach too far into Florida.

Welcome to 2010

Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and properous year to come!

I took a brief vacation from blogging this week to celebrate our wedding anniversary as well as the new year.   We went to Apalachicola with friends who share the same anniversary date.  We stayed at the Coombs House Inn - a terrific Bed and Breakfast.   it's a marvelous old place with an interesting history.
