WELL:  A Richer Life by Seeing the Glass Half Full

BY JANE E. BRODY
How to define optimism, put it into practice and enjoy its benefits.

I've been a fan of Jane Brody for sometime now.  Earlier this week I ran across one of her articles that's well worth reading.   Ms. Brody stresses the value of being optimistic, of surrounding yourself with upbeat people, of concentrating on positive thinking, and avoiding negative self talk.   Her article pulls together a number of valuable examples from a variety of sources.   One source is “Breaking Murphy’s Law,” a book by Suzanne C. Segerstrom, a professor of psychology at the University of Kentucky.   Dr. Segerstrom explains that optimism is not about being positive so much as it is about being motivated and persistent.

Take a moment to read all of this informative and interesting article.
